The
Eiffel Tower
and Empire
State Building
The Eiffel Tower of Paris, the Empire state Building of New York
Buckingham palace of London and an unnamed building in Mexico City are great
and magnificent buildings.
Among the
mentioned buildings the 2nd is the much taller than the first. It
did not begin to rise until 1930 and the building was 1250 feet tall when
president Hoover opened it in 1930. Next in 1951 a TV transmission tower was
added for radio and television broadcasts. The tower thus added another 222
feet to its height and this brother the total height to 1472 feet. The 102
storey Empire State Building remained the world’s tallest structure for 40 years.
However it is now challenged by some more high-rise buildings such as the world
Trade center in New York, Chicago’s Sears Tower and Moscow’s Ostankino TV shaft.
But the Empire state Building is still one of the most impressive buildings of
the world and is visited by about 1.5 million people every year.
It has 73 high
speed elevators plus four moving stairways on the lower floors, 6,500 windows,
ten million bricks and 400 tons of stainless steel. To meet its communication
needs there are 3,500 miles of telephone and telegraph wires. To give it light
and heat another 25, 00,000 feet electrical wires are required. All these are
very up to date. But recently the destruction of the World Trade Centre has
brought fear for all other noted buildings of the world. It is told that it
happened for terrorism.
