Shaw
Bernard Shaw was born in Dublin in 26 July
1856. His father’s family had been a small landowner in Ireland since the last
seventeenth century. Shaw’s education was ordinary enough but as a boy he loved
frequent visit to Irish National Gallery to study the pictures there and by the
time, he was fifteen. He had a sound knowledge of some of the great composers too.
Then his mother having gone to London, he was left with his father and worked
as a clerk in a Dublin Estate Agent Office. Determining to be a writer he
resigned himself for the post. At the age of 20 he joined his mother in London.
At the age of 26 he completed writing four novels. By 1890,
his knowledge of
contemporary economic matter was considerable. He chose the drama as the means
where by to criticise and educated society the next year. He published the first
collection of plays entitled Pleasant and Unpleasant in 1898.With the
publication of ‘Man and Superman’ he attained his full status as a dramatist at
the age of 47.He died at the age of 94,of renal failure precipitated by
injuries incurred by falling while pruning atree.
