14. Visit to a Historical Place
During
the last Ramadan vacation I visited the mazar of Khan Jahan Ali and the
Satgambuj Mosque .This historical place is situated in the suburbs of Bagerhat
.The mazar of Khan Jahan Ali stands on a raised ground .The tomb is made of
stones .On the night of the full moon of the month of Chaitra ,a big fair is
held beside the mazar .Faqirs and other sufi-like people gather here and pass
the whole night singing songs .There is a big lake-like tank in front of the
mazar .It has several crocodiles in it .People believe that if they satisfy the
hunger of these crocodiles with hens or goat ,they would have the desire of
their heart fulfilled .I stayed here about two hours and then left for the Satgambuj
Mosque .This is about two miles away from the mazar .The Satgambuj is a large
building .It stands on sixty stone pillars with its seven gambuj .Some say that
it was used as a mosque by Khan Jahan Ali .Others say that it was used as a
Darbar by the Mughal Governor of the place .There is also a lake-like tank by
the side of the Satgambuj Mosque .It is said that before digging it a horse was
made run a race .It ran straight and covering a certain distance ,the horse
stood still .That distance was accepted as the length of the dig .That is why
the dighi was named Ghora Dighi .That dighi also has its own crocodiles .I spent
some time there .I returned but I bore the past history in my heart .
