26. Globalisation
Globalisation
is a process by which our globe becomes a global village. Through this process
the world has come closer. Countries of the world are like families in a
village. It has been possible for advanced communication. We can now learn in
an instant what is happening in the farthest corner of the world. We can travel
to any country in the shortest possible time. The people of one country can
share their joys and sorrows with the people of other countries. They are like
the next-door neighbuors. If one country is in distress, others can immediately
come to its help. We see that sports can help the process of globalization. The
sports venue becomes a meeting place of people from different countries. Thus
it creates a sense of brotherhood. But globalization creates a strong effect on
our life. Under the influence of globalization, global cultures are getting
mixed with local cultures. Different cultures are constantly interacting. As an
independent nation, we have our own traditional social values, belief and
attitudes. But in the process of globalization many foreign customs and belief
are intruding on them. The intrusion of foreign culture is seen as a threat to
our culture. Satellite television channels and Internet are bringing all sorts
of different cultures into our homes. This is having a profound impact on our
young generation in particular. But we cannot isolate ourselves from the outer
world because our world is one and so we should care and share.
